Volker Buscher is Arup’s Chief Data Officer, responsible for the firm’s strategy: “Creativity with Data at Scale”. He is key to developing the firm’s data infrastructure, science and innovation platforms, establishing leadership across Arup, delivering innovative solutions with clients and an ecosystem of partners.
He is concerned with emerging technology trends which have a disruptive impact, and identifying where Arup should develop or change knowledge, culture and practices.
Volker has a track record regarding the role of data in sustainable development goals, including climate change and inclusion. He has global experience in leading digital innovation, as project director and non-executive director.
Volker is leading Data Supernova, Arup’s foresight and research program with academic and industry partners. He is non-executive director on advisory boards including: Icebreaker One, Smart London Board, the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), and previously the Smart Cities Forum with UK ministers for cities and technology.
His thought Leadership covers global work in the digital built environment. He is Course Director of Arup University masters level course in Smart Cities, Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Volker has worked extensively on the digital agenda for cities as reflected in his lectures and publications
Volker is also Co-chair for the Arup Foundation sponsored “Digital Cities for Change (DC2)” programme at Cambridge University, industrial supervisor for doctorates and international reviewer for research programs in the digital built environment.
